Our Fabrics
FULL TRANSPARENCY
It is important to us that you know Aberdevine strives to be a sustainable and fully transparent enterprise. Our ultimate goal is to become a fully circular brand one day, and we are working hard to make it happen. A bra can have as many as 30 components, and we are determined to use only those we feel are kindest to the planet, people and animals. But it doesn’t stop there...
FABRICS
At Aberdevine, we have spent many years searching for components that will be of the highest quality and help us achieve our goal of becoming a truly circular company. After several years of intensive research, rigorous testing, and consultation with experts, we have concluded that using regenerated and recycled fabrics from local suppliers is the most environmentally friendly approach and we prioritise textile-to-textile recycled fabrics, which offer superior durability. Our Founder, Marta, then embarked on a mission to find local British and European premium suppliers whose innovative, sustainable solutions look exceptional and perform exceptionally well.
LACE
We have chosen regenerated (textile-to-textile recycled) lace as the primary fabric for our products to meet specific traceability needs and rely on globally accredited certifications. The quality of our fabrics adds further value without compromising aesthetics. Our Italian eco lace was developed with environmental preservation as a focal point, taking into account not only the individual fibres but the entire manufacturing process. Its eco-friendly approach encompasses the whole manufacturing process, from selecting raw materials to using solar energy. This means our lace manufacturers are equipped with a photovoltaic system, including solar panels, which provide about 30% of the factory's total energy consumption while ensuring a significant reduction in water use.
Nevertheless, the main uniqueness of our lace lies in the use of regenerated threads. Thanks to a highly innovative production system for regenerating synthetic fibres called MCS (Melting-Continuous-Spinning), residues from the production process can be reused to spin new microfibers that are exceptionally soft and silky, ensuring brilliant colours and ease of dyeing. All these yarns made from the residues of the spinning process, which would typically be treated as waste with considerable environmental implications, make our signature Aberdevine lace. They are the main component of our beautiful, handmade, durable bras, bodysuits and knickers. All the yarns used to create our lace satisfy specific traceability needs and boast globally accredited certifications, including Global Recycled Standard, OEKO-Tex, and EU Ecolabel.
TULLE
The delicate tulle that you see in our designs is a very special one as well. The importance of tulle in lingerie craft cannot be underestimated. It’s the lace and the tulle that hold your breasts in place, and it is of utmost importance that it’s performing in the right way, providing the right stretchability, support and, most of all, softness.
We use AMNI SOUL ECO® tulle- made of accelerated biodegradable textile yarns that maintain the high performance of polyamide throughout the life of the garment, leaving no toxic elements in the soil after decomposition. AMNI SOUL ECO® technology is part of a new generation of sustainable yarns produced with environmentally friendly processes. This innovative composition allows the fibre to decompose faster in anaerobic landfills and in the marine environment at the end of the garment's life. Data shows that more than 50 percent of end-of-life clothing ends up in landfills. In these environments, garments made with AMNI SOUL ECO® yarns fully decompose 10 times faster than other synthetic fibers.[1]
Our tulle has all the important certificates, including Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 certification, which certifies the absence of harmful substances in its products.
TENCEL
For the most intimate part of your knickers, briefs and bodysuits, we have carefully chosen TENCEL™ Lyocell, which creates all the gussets. It is produced from sustainably sourced wood in a certified environmentally responsible manner. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres derive from controlled and certified wood sources and a trademark of Lenzing AG, Austria.
We considered bamboo, but it grows poorly in the European climate and inevitably involves long-distance air freight. We deemed new organic cotton to be too environmentally harmful in its growth and production, particularly its water and heat demands, and recycled cotton failed our durability and appearance tests. Our TENCEL™ Lyocell just like all our other components comes from Europe, it's made from wood pulp. It is hygienic, has antimicrobial properties, is kind to skin, is completely biodegradable.
STRAPS AND ELASTICS
All our bras, bralettes and bodysuits have straps and bands made from sustainable recycled nylon obtained from regenerated raw materials that would otherwise have been disposed of as waste. They are made of certified Q-NOVA®, a recycled and sustainable Nylon fibre obtained from regenerated raw materials, according to the criteria and requirements of modern traceability. Q-NOVA® comprises waste materials from the primary production cycle at the fabric manufacturers in Italy. Such materials could not be reused in any other way and would otherwise be disposed of externally as waste. Furthermore, it uses an innovative mechanical regeneration system, which does not involve using chemical materials that would compromise the sustainability of the final product. Q-NOVA® is certified and traced by the Global Recycle Standard system, by the European ECOLABEL EU system as well as by the OEKO-TEX STD 100 CLASS I system.
At Aberdevine, we constantly strive to make lingerie more sustainable, ethical, and long-lasting. We focus on size-adjustable designs, recycled and regenerated fabrics, and a closed-loop recycling program to reduce waste and minimise our impact on the planet. Our journey has involved years of research, testing, and learning, and while we’ve made significant progress, we know there’s always more to improve. We have tried many approaches to find the best materials and methods, but no solution is final. We promise to keep researching, refining, and listening—because sustainability is a journey, and we are committed to continuously improving all aspects of our brand.
